Zippo Lighter - Not Lighting

How to troubleshoot your Zippo lighter if it isn't lighting properly.

Here are a few things to check if your Zippo Windproof Pocket Lighter is not lighting.

  1. Make sure your lighter has fuel in it: This may sound silly, but Zippo lighters don't come with fuel in them. Fill er up with Zippo Lighter Fuel for optimum performance. Find out how here: https://kb.zippo.com/zippo-lighter/fill
  2. The flint wheel is stuck: Try spinning the wheel back and forth or tapping it lightly on a solid surface that won’t make an imprint. This should allow any leftover flint debris to come out. You could also try using an opened paper clip to place in the flint and move it around gently to loosen any stuck flint particles. If this doesn't work, you may need to replace your flint in addition to clearing any debris away from the wheel and the flint tube. Find out how to do that here: https://kb.zippo.com/zippo-lighter/flint
  3. Wheel is spinning freely or there's no spark: Your lighter might need a new flint, which must be replaced periodically. See the article here to learn how: https://kb.zippo.com/zippo-lighter/flint
  4. The wick isn't wicking: After many uses, the wick just won't bring fuel up to meet the spark of the flint and flint wheel. This is easily fixed by pulling more wick up and trimming off the excess. Find out how by clicking here: https://kb.zippo.com/zippo-lighter/wick
