Yellow Flame Butane Inserts
Learn how to use and troubleshoot your Zippo Yellow Flame Butane Insert and Yellow Flame Pipe Butane Insert
Q: Why isn’t my Yellow Flame Butane Insert working properly?
A: First, make sure you have a working flint. They’re due to be replaced periodically, typically after up to 2,500 ignitions. Secondly, make sure you’re using Zippo or Ronson butane, as these are specially formulated for use in Zippo butane products.
- The insert may have a vapor lock. All you need is a butane fuel can and a Phillips-head screwdriver. Be sure the tool does not have any sharp edges that could damage the fuel fill valve.
- In a well-ventilated area away from any open flame, turn your torch upside down. You should see the fuel fill valve on the bottom.
- Aim the valve away from your face and body. Align your butane can with the fuel fill valve and firmly push down to fill it for approximately 5-6 seconds.
- The fuel tank will now contain air and butane under pressure. Holding the torch upside down, with the fuel fill valve still directed away from your face and body, use the screwdriver to press down on the fuel valve. Only use enough force to open the valve so the butane may release. Use caution, as the escaping butane is extremely flammable and will feel very cold. Do not attempt to light the torch in the same area the butane was release.
- Finally, fill the fuel tank again with butane by aligning the nozzle of the butane can with the fuel fill valve, firmly pressing down for 5-6 seconds. Allow at least two minutes for the torch to stabilize and to allow any excess butane to dissipate.
