Refillable Hand Warmers
Take comfort knowing the proper use of your Zippo Refillable Hand Warmer.
Q: How do I refill my refillable hand warmer?
A: Before any refilling occurs, make sure your hand warmer is cool to the touch. Remove the hand warmer lid, then remove the catalytic burner unit from the base unit by holding it lengthwise (upright with Zippo logo).
Next, pour Zippo Lighter Fuel into the appropriate plastic filling cup provided in the package. Do not spill.
- For 6-hour warmers: Fill to line for about 6 hours of heat.
- For 12-hour warmers: Fill to line for about 12 hours of heat.
- Do not fill cup above the line.
Slowly and carefully pour the fluid into the filling hole on the hand warmer body while maintain an upright position. Do not add lighter fluid directly to the burner. Note: Overfilling will cause malfunction, risk of injury and fire.
Keep the hand warmer upright and carefully replace the catalytic burner unit. Make sure it’s fully seated.
Carefully wipe off any excess fuel from the hand warmer surfaces and allow excess fuel to evaporate before igniting.
Be sure the fuel can is closed and there is not spilled fuel in the vicinity before igniting. Fuel is flammable.
Finally, allow the hand warmer to rest in the upright position for at least two minutes before igniting to allow fuel to be fully distributed in the absorbent material and become available to the catalytic burner.
Do not lay hand warmer down after filling and before ignition.
If laid down, liquid fuel can get into the catalytic burner, which may cause a flame to occur upon ignition.
Q: How do I ignite my Refillable Hand Warmer?
A: With the lid off the Refillable Hand Warmer, hold the base unit upright and apply flame to the catalytic burner unit for approximately 10 seconds. Ignition upon first use after initial filling could take longer than expected and require application of flame more than one time. The hand warmer heats by a catalytic process. There is no flame present after ignition. Presence of flame upon ignition indicates over filling. Put flame out and allow excess fuel to evaporate before attempting re-ignition.
After flameless ignition has been confirmed, replace the lid, then place warmer into the provided supplied protective fabric bag. The Hand Warmer must always be placed in the supplied protective fabric bag to prevent over-heating. The hand warmer will now provide comfortable warmth for hours. After ignition, heat is provided by a catalytic process without flame.
Q: If I experience issues not resolved with the above troubleshooting steps, what can I do?
A: If your hand warmer fails to perform satisfactorily within 2 years of purchase due to defects in materials and/or workmanship, please complete our repair form, which can be accessed by clicking here.
NOTE: The catalytic burner element must be replaced periodically and is not warranted. You can purchase replacement burners at zippo.com. The finish is not warranted. Use of non-Zippo fuel makes warranty voidable.
