FireFast® Torch
Get the most out of your torch with proper use and steps to repair.
Q: What type of fuel should I be using?
A: Use only high-quality fuel like Ronson or Zippo Butane Fuel to fill and refill. Use of other low-quality fuels may result in damage to the filling valve and could cause clogging.
Q: My Firefast torch isn’t working properly. What could the problem be?
A: First, make sure you’re using Zippo or Ronson butane, as these are specially formulated for use in Zippo products.
If you are using the correct fuel, please follow these steps:
- The torch may have a vapor lock. All you need is a butane fuel can and a Phillips-head screwdriver (be sure the tool does not have any sharp edges that could damage the fuel fill valve.
- In a well-ventilated area away from any open flame, turn your torch upside down. You should see the fuel fill valve on the bottom.
- Aim the valve away from your face and body. Align your butane can with the fuel fill valve and firmly push down to fill it for approximately 5-6 seconds.
- The fuel tank will now contain air and butane under pressure. Holding the torch upside down, with the fuel fill valve still directed away from your face and body, use the screwdriver to press down on the fuel valve. Only use enough force to open the valve so the butane may release. Use caution, as the escaping butane is extremely flammable and will feel very cold. Do not attempt to light the torch in the same area the butane was release.
- Finally, fill the fuel tank again with butane by aligning the nozzle of the butane can with the fuel fill valve, firmly pressing down for 5-6 seconds. Allow at least two minutes for the torch to stabilize and to allow any excess butane to dissipate.
Q: What precautions should I take before refilling my FireFast® Torch?
A: Before filling, ensure that your torch is extinguished and has had sufficient time to cool to room temperature. Do not refuel over containers such as sinks or near a flame. Butane tends to settle and collect in the lowest point.
Q: How do I refill my FireFast® Torch?
A: Hold the torch with the butane refill valve up. Invert the fuel can and insert the tip of the butane into the torch’s refill valve. Take a moment to ensure a proper connection. Apply firm pressure to allow fuel to flow into the torch’s fuel tank until full. Do not overfill.
After filling your torch, allow at least two minutes for the butane to stabilize before igniting.
Q: What should I know about the FireFast® Torch’s capabilities?
A: The torch produces a precision blue flame suitable for a variety of hobby and household projects, including fire starting, soldering, heating, melting, and thawing. It is not intended for commercial use or extended burn times. The flame length is adjustable, and the torch features an air mixture control that allows you to shift from a high-temperature blue flame to a lower-temperature yellow flame, ideal for tasks such as bending glass.
Q: How do I use the FireFast® Torch properly?
A: Always ignite away from your face, body and clothing. Be sure the flame is out after use.
- Ignition: Be sure the Air Mix Slide on top of the torch is moved toward the flame nozzle. Fully engage the child resistant lock. With it fully engaged, press the gas ignition trigger to ignite the flame.
- Extinguishing the Flame: Release the gas ignition trigger and child resistant lock to extinguish the flame.
- Adjusting Flame Size: To adjust the flame size, move the flame adjuster toward “+” for a higher flame or “-“ for a lower flame.
- Adjusting Flame Color: To work with yellow flame, move the air mix slide away from the flame nozzle to limit the flow of air into the burner. Change the flame only after ignition. To return to blue flame, move the air mix slide toward the flame nozzle.
Q: I filled my torch, and it still won't light. What's up with that?
A: First, make sure you’re using Zippo or Ronson butane, as they are specially formulated for use in Zippo products.
Try adjusting the flame height of the torch using the Flame Adjuster knob on the side of the torch.
If your torch is still not lighting as expected, try the following:
- The torch may have a vapor lock. To release the "lock", all you need is a can of Zippo butane and a Phillips-head screwdriver or similar small blunt tool (be sure the tool does not have any sharp edges that could damage the fuel fill valve).
- In a well-ventilated area away from any open flame, turn your torch upside down. You should see the butane fill valve on the bottom.
- Aim the valve away from your face and body. Align your butane can with the fill valve and firmly push down to fill it for approximately 5-6 seconds.
Q: If my FireFast® Torch needs repair, what can I do?
A: If your torch is within the two-year warranty window, please complete our repair form, which can be accessed by clicking here.
