Butane Torch Lighter Inserts
Learn how to use and troubleshoot the Zippo Single Torch Butane Lighter Insert and the Zippo Double Torch Butane Lighter Insert
Q: Why is my butane insert not fitting properly into my windproof lighter case?
A: First, try cleaning the inside of your lighter case with a damp cloth to remove any debris that may prevent the insert from sitting flush inside. Single and Double Torch Butane inserts dated J20-L22 may not fit into Armor® cases.
If it is still not fitting correctly, please contact our Consumer Relations team using the chat button below or by emailing support@help.zippo.com.
Q: Why isn’t my butane insert working properly?
A: First, ensure you’re using Zippo or Ronson butane, as they are specially formulated for use in Zippo products.
There are a few elements that can be adjusted:
Flame Height:
Adjust the flame height at the bottom of the insert using a flat-head screwdriver, dime or paper clip.
Ignition Wire:
Your ignition wire may have been distorted when removing the insert from the packaging. Be sure the wire is at a 90-degree angle for the Single Torch Butane Insert and between the two burners for the Double Torch Butane Insert. Exercise extreme caution and only attempt to adjust the ignition wire if the insert is brand new and hasn’t been ignited.
Vapor Lock:
- The torch may have a vapor lock. All you need is a butane fuel can and a Phillips-head screwdriver. Be sure the tool does not have any sharp edges that could damage the fuel fill valve.
- In a well-ventilated area away from any open flame, turn your insert upside down. You should see the fuel fill valve on the bottom.
- Aim the valve away from your face and body. Align your butane can with the fuel fill valve and firmly push down to fill it for approximately 5-6 seconds.
- The fuel tank will now contain air and butane under pressure. Holding the torch upside down, with the fuel fill valve still directed away from your face and body, use the screwdriver to press down on the fuel valve. Only use enough force to open the valve so the butane may release. Use caution, as the escaping butane is extremely flammable and will feel very cold. Do not attempt to light the torch in the same area the butane was release.
- Finally, fill the fuel tank again with butane by aligning the nozzle of the butane can with the fuel fill valve, firmly pressing down for 5-6 seconds. Allow at least two minutes for the torch to stabilize and to allow any excess butane to dissipate.
Q: If my insert needs repair, what can I do?
A: First, make sure your insert is still within the two-year warranty window. If it is, please complete our repair form, which can be accessed by clicking here.
Please do not mail your insert. U.S. Postal and other shipping regulations can restrict shipping of products filled or previously filled with butane.
